Happy Halloween! We hope you’re enjoying some tricks or treats while dressed in fabulously macabre costumes — that’s always our plan. In honor of our favorite holiday, let’s debate who is the spookiest historical villain on screen. There are so many to choose from, fictional and real, and of course, this list is subjective. As always, you can add more wicked historical figures from movies and TV in the comments!
I confess I voted with my oxytocin, not my vasopressin.
I’m still disturbed by the flying monkeys, with Dementors a close second.
I voted for my favorite rather than the spookiest. “Because it’s DULL, you twit. It’ll hurt more.”
I considered voting that way too…..
Exactly who and why I voted the way I did!
I went with the vampire here, since he’s creepy, but can see why Lucille Sharp has so many votes. Nothing like a little SPOILER incest to spice things up!
The Victorian ghost from The Woman in Black also gives me the creeps.
Caligula by John Hurt in I, Claudius.
Hands down not only because he really existed but I cannot ever imagine – enduring – er – living around such a human with so much power. All of the others seem insular and that I could easily run away or avoid in real life – not so much with a psychotic emperor over a vast empire.
I went with Caligula for the same reason. First, I eliminated all the fictional villains in the list, and then it was obvious that Caligula could not be topped.
Went with Lucille Sharp, but Helen McCrory’s Madame Kali is 2nd
Since I know the story of the real Madame DeLaurie, I had to vote for her. If you are so terrible a person that the other slave owners intervened on behalf of your slaves. Yeah, you evil.
And I think Sian Phillips as (fictional) Livia ought to be on this list too. So delightfully wicked!
Ooh, ooh, ooh! Please do a write-up of that Richard III movie! All those swanky, 30’s costumes and marcelled hair!
I saw the stage version of McKellen’s RIII at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham. Out-bloody-standing.

I will! Thank you!
