Sunshine (1999) short review

An interesting film that doesn’t quite achieve all its aims, but is still worth watching nonetheless. Spans three generations of a Hungarian Jewish family. Early scenes are set in the 1890s and feature Jennifer Ehle in some great gowns (loved her wedding dress!). Also keep your eye on Rachel Weisz in the 1920s scenes.

Perhaps my favorite recent Epic Family Saga, although not exactly a musical comedy (poor Ralph Fiennes, who plays three generations of Sonnenschein/Sors men, comes to a terrible end at the hands of Hungarian Nazis). Fine performances and gorgeous production values.
