  1. The Favourite.He was just so…peacock.
By the way, will the FF draw up their list of best costume design oscars,as it did earlier? This year I felt like there wasn’t enough historical eye candy in films.

  2. I quite liked him in Tolkien and The Current War. He’s not flashy but he is dependably invested in doing a good job. I went to a screener of the Tolkien pic with the director answering some questions afterwards and apparently Hoult decided to get into art as part of his character preparation, so there are some fun pics of him in his X-Men get up (Beast?) with little paints out between takes. I was really impressed with all the performances in The Current War as well—a lot of “show, don’t tell” in both script and performances.

  3. I agree! His performance in The Favourite was exceptional — and that’s saying a lot because the cast was amazing.

  4. My, my–that dorky kid from “About a Boy,” and look at him now. As I recall, the sweaters his mum Toni Collette knit for him might qualify as costume, but in a really bad way.

  5. Of the movies on this list, I’ve only seen “A Single Man” and “Tolkien.” I enjoyed them both. “A Single Man” was excellent. “Tolkien” was very uneven, but I enjoyed it overall. Niicholas Hoult is attractive, but I often I feel like he’s made to be weird-looking in some of his films.
