Seriously, we have combs going back to prehistoric times. Combs seem to have been one of the first things humans invented. They were among the small but highly valued articles people carried around with them. Professional hairdressers are attested to at the very dawn of history. Nobody outside of films has EVER gone through their day peering through a mop of uncombed, untied, unpinned hair! It simply was not done!
