    1. I think it’s Avery English face myself. The costume in the Cadfael picture is simply horrible. On the other hand the Other Boleyn Girl is pretty good as these things go. I like the the damask pattern and the hood is almost right. The sleeves of course are all wrong, and the whole outfit lacks the ornamentation you’d expect to see. No biliment on the cap, no slashing on the undersleeve and fur lining on the over sleeve. No girdle and only a hint of an ornamental border.

    2. I always confuse her with young 70s era Meryl Streep. Same large eyes, broad forehead, and high prominent cheekbones. (Ooh! Someone should make a biopic of Meryl Streep and cast Natascha McElhone!)

  1. She’d be great in a Joan Crawford-era film. She’s got a Crawford-like face–very 30s/40s.

    1. Her face leaves me guessing her age-is she in her 20’s,30’s or 40’s?
She was great in The Other Boleyn Girl, and her scenes with Jodhi May were compelling. Was the portrayal accurate to the book though?I found her Mary was quite different from the film version(in a good way,the film Mary’s sweetness gave me diabetes).

I like her in The Other Boleyn Girl. Her scenes with Jodhi May were compelling.Atleast her Mary wasn’t as sickly sweet as the film version.

  3. For me, it’s a tie. Ladies in Lavender is one of my favorite films, and it’s one I think of as “quintessentially British.” I loved it when Judi Dench’s character compared Natasha McElhone to a witch in a fairy tale. It was so apt and accurately foreboding! For years, I’ve been an evangelist for the TV show Cadfael. Derek Jacobi was PERFECT in that role! This year, I finally read one of the Cadfael books and then I fell in love with the source material, too. The Other Boleyn Girl…I have no recollection her in that movie, I was too dismayed that the three leads were totally miscast to take any notice of her. She always reminds me of Saffron Burrows. They should play sisters in a period piece.

  4. Good lord, is that Ray Stevenson in that Saints and Strangers thing? Maybe I need to check that out…Any chance of a MCMonday for him?

  5. I’ve loved her since she was the true love in The Truman Show. She has this amazing aura of mystery about her, and I;m not quite sure how she does it. She just always seems so aloof and enchanting.
