  1. I really liked your comments that history is a foreign country I may quote you in a class I am teaching.

      1. “The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.” are the famous first words of L.P. Hartley’s THE GO-BETWEEN. That’s probably where you got it from.

  2. I definitely have to check this out; I’ve been wanting more things about Black history that aren’t about either slavery, Harlem Renaissance, or Civil Rights. Not to say that those things aren’t worth studying, but I happen to be especially fond of the 18802-1900s, so this looks right up my alley.

  3. OHmyGosh, when I was younger my Mom rented this from the library, but we turned it off because of a sex(?) scene and watched two other films, one from Tibet and another from China, instead.

  4. I live in Florida. I look at those lovely, authentic costumes with their long sleeves and layers and shudder at the thought of wearing them in a hot, humid climate.
