MCM: Tobias Menzies

15

I’ve already written a Man Candy Monday dedicated to Tobias Menzies’ character on Outlander, Frank Randall, but I figured I could extend the love a little bit more and give Menzies his own post.

Rome (2005-2007) – Marcus Junius Brutus

Persuasion (2007) – William Elliot

The Relief of Belsen (2007) – Derrick Sington

Anton Checkhov’s The Duel (2010) – Von Koren

Any Human Heart (2010) – Ian Fleming

Outlander (2014-) – Frank Randall/Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall

Have you noticed Tobias Menzies in historical costume roles outside of Outlander?

About the author

Sarah Lorraine

Website

Sarah discovered her dual passion for history and costume right around the age of twelve. Dragged kicking and screaming to her first Renaissance Faire at Black Point, she was convinced she was going to hate it, but to her surprise, she fell head over heels in love with the world of reenactment and dress up immediately. Her undergraduate degree is in Clothing & Textile Design, and she has a Master's in Art History and Visual Culture. When she’s not hauling crap to SCA events and ren faires, Sarah enjoys reading true crime books, writing fiction, and sewing historical clothing from the Middle Ages through the 20th-century. One of these days, she might even start updating her old costuming blog again.

So how many of these does he live through? (I know he presumably survives Persuasion.) I was watching “Star Wars Rebels” this season and thinking hm, that voice sounds familiar…oh, hi, Tobias Menzies, I just watched you die TWICE in Outlander this season, are we going for the hat trick? Yes we are!”

That man has one of the sexiest voices I have ever heard.

By the way, he had a small roles in 2007’s “Atonement” and 2011’s “Hysteria”. He’ll also be appearing in an upcoming film called “Carmilla”.

He was in “Longitude” a TV movie from 2000. And he’ll be in “The Terror” 2018.

He’s one of those actors that’s Sneakedly Sexy… or Stealthily Sexy. You don’t suspect it until you’ve been ensnared! 😉

He’s also in AMCs upcoming series “The Terror”; that’s historical but horror/fantasy, so not sure it counts.

I fell in love with him when I saw him in Rome, particularly his “re-birth” swimming scene ;)

I’m currently watching the second episode of Foyle’s War, and he has a small part there. It’s set during WWII, and he’s wearing a pair of cute classes (the round wire rim kind)

Besides Outlander, I’m choosing Rome and Persuasion. His Brutus made me forget the Colleen McCullough portrayal in her books on Rome and the political struggles of Marius, Sulla, Pompey and Caesar.
