  1. Dangit! I was hunting high & low for a full-length pic of her from that movie; everything is a tight crop or in shadow, & this one seemed awfully close to what I remembered :(

Picture changed, correct dress, just the top half, but it’s recognizably 1940s-does-Victorian at least.

    1. I once read a quote from Edith Head regarding “The Heiress” where she said something along the lines of, “We went to the Met to look at all the dresses from the era so the construction of the costumes would be 100% accurate…” and I thought, “Oh, honey. Not with those sleeve heads.” How times change.

      Here’s an okay full-length pic:

And I seem to recall seeing a pic of the actual dress when it was auctioned some time ago. It was hanging limply on a mannequin…

      1. ETA yet again: Okay, apparently that’s just a copy of the costumes that Edith Head would use for her fashion shows late in her career.

Wish I could edit my comments on here. :P

      1. Fantastic! I bow to your Google-fu!

And man, the dress is such a weird wanna-be Victorian thing. It’s actually more historically accurate from the waist down than the top (which is kind of a fantasy concoction).
