Celebrated Memorial Day by going to see “Chevalier.” (Well…the Revolution is starting toward the end.) The script messes around rather a lot with chronology and relationships, packing lots of melodrama and Lessons Learned into two hours. Kelvin Harrison, Jr., is gorgeous and a pretty good actor, playing a genius swordsman and musician with some authority. Very nice costuming for all economic classes. But should gentlemen not have been wearing hats outdoors, or was that unnecessary with a wig? Also, I kept worrying that the Chevalier didn’t usually have his sword handy; guys with money and influence wore swords in public in the 18th century, yes?
